In St. John Vianney's sermon for the thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost, he shares what all Catholics MUST know...  the Catholic must have knowledge of these basics, but also be able to explain the meaning of them:

1)  The Our Father...  and that it was composed by God

2)  The Hail Mary...  and that it was composed partly by the angel Gabriel at the Annunciation and partly by the Church

3)  The Creed...  and that it was composed by the Apostles after the descent of the Holy Ghost shortly after Pentecost so that the same mysteries may be taught throughout the world; that it contains a summary of our entire Religion

4)  The Confiteor

5)  The Act of Faith

6)  The Act of Hope

7)  The Act of Charity

8)  The commandments of God and the Church...  and that the Commandments were given to Adam when he was created; they were written in his heart and that afterwards Moses also had them written on stone tablets on Mt. Sinai

9)  The Act of Contrition

10)  The Mystery of the Incarnation

11)  The Sacraments...  and that Jesus instituted them

CALL TO ACTION:  Take time to examine each of these basics!
